Hurst’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Jami Edwards-Clarke, has been named as the winner of the Outstanding INDEX (Inclusion and Diversity Excellence) Leadership Award at the Boarding Schools’ Association Awards 2021.
First held in 2018, the BSA Awards celebrate the achievements, hard work, and dedication of schools and individuals to boarding. This year’s event was the biggest yet, and the Outstanding INDEX Leadership Award was one of two new categories. It was also a record year for entries, with close to 200 submissions received.
Jami was appointed as Director of Diversity and Inclusion in July last year, alongside her responsibilities as Fleur’s Housemistress and a Teacher of PE. Under Jami’s leadership, the support from staff and pupils to drive the movement forward has been overwhelming.
In naming Jami as the winner, the judges said: “Jami has shown exemplary leadership and management in integrating the different strands of EDI. These results are visible in the presentation of the impact of her strategies and the clear emphasis placed on stakeholder voices.”
“ A personal thanks to those that have embraced our D&I vision. This award was the first ever INDEX award and we won. The pupils and staff on the platform have been the engine throughout. Despite being in a global pandemic and facing the challenges of a normal school year, what has been achieved is more than impressive. This award isn’t about me, it’s about the College and I thank you for bearing with us and embracing the challenge. The journey isn’t over, but we can be really proud of what we have achieved. ” Jami Edwards-Clarke, Director of Diversity and Inclusion
