The Upper Sixth MUN (Model United Nations) team headed to London to visit the embassies of Lebanon and United States of America.
After arriving in London early, the students headed to Kensington Palace Gardens and visited the memorial to Princess Diana. The picturesque surroundings ensured high spirits as the team entered the Lebanese embassy. Shortly after lunch, the team were greeted by Deputy Head of Mission, Marwan Francis, and First Secretary, Ms Rasha Haddad.
The representatives for Lebanon began by discussing the ‘Road to Recovery’ for their country since the Beirut explosion in August 2020 and how Lebanon is looking to recover economically. The team were then treated to Lebanese cuisine followed by a discussion on the significance of this to the country and its global impacts. The Q&A session which followed, covered both analytical and political topics to end the visit. After a team photo, the students made their way to the American Embassy via the underground.
The American embassy building was hard to miss, with it elaborate infrastructure and high level of security. Once through security, the team settled into an engaging discussion and Q&A session covering important topics such as ‘the pathway into becoming a United States diplomat overseas’. The conversation developed into topics such as ‘how hyper partisanship in America is affecting diplomatic matter’, ‘how does the US combat the situation in Afghanistan’ and ‘the international relationships America has with the rest of the world’.
