Seven riders travel to Addington Equestrian for three days of competition
This year, seven riders made the journey to Addington Equestrian, Buckinghamshire for three days of competition at the NSEA National Championships.
The competition kicked off with the 80cm, and our JWS team consisting of Eloise, Ryan, Harry and Matilda, produced some stylish rounds over an incredibly challenging course which saw many fail. The Hurst four flourished to take a brilliant third on the podium, out of a large entry list of 37 other teams.
Later that evening, two of our riders were thrilled to be chosen to represent their countries in the coveted Nations Cup. Katie rode for Wales and Harry represented ‘Rest of the World’, qualifying as a result of being an eighth Kiwi! Scotland finished on top of the pile, with England second, Rest of the World third and Wales in fourth.
On Saturday, the 90cm show jumping team of Harry, Matilda, Finley, Mette and individual rider, Katie all put in a determined effort, but did not make the final eight. Mette produced a super dressage test in the elementary section, on her lovely horse George Clooney, and they finished in a well-deserved nine place.
Finally, on Sunday afternoon, Katie on Lyste Marten, jumped a super-fast clear in the first round of the 1.05m to finish in third place and qualify for the finals. With just one unlucky pole down in the jump off, the pair still finished in an excellent sixth place in the championship class.
“Many congratulations to all of you who qualified to compete at the 2019 Championships – a tremendous achievement and one of which you should all be very proud. The hard work starts now for 2020!”, Georgina Black, Mistress-in-charge of Equestrian.
