Fantastic performance in open section of National Schools Comp
A Hurst team of three took part in the Girls’ National Schools and Universities Polo Competition at the Black Bear’s Polo Club in Henley, bringing home the bronze medal.
As the event took place in an arena, each of the teams consisted of three players, with Ruby H and Maddy L, joined by a friend of Ruby’s, making up the Hurst team in the open section. Our girls played against some very strong sides, and in the first chukka, although the game was very close and could have gone either way, they lost 0-1 to a mixed side of ladies. Next up was a team from Cheltenham Ladies School, and our girls put in a stellar performance to win convincingly 4-0, with goals from all three. In the final match of the tournament and another one that was full of tight chukkas, they faced Highfield Girls. Our girls dominated from start to finish but unfortunately gave away a penalty to lose 1-0, but still took a bronze medal overall.
“A fantastic achievement considering the girls have not played together before. Maddy and Ruby thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and are hoping that this is the start of many more victories in Hurst colours,” Georgina Black, Mistress-in-charge of Equestrian.
