The U15 girls’ cricket team recently took part in the ECB Lady Taverners indoor competition on home ground and made it through to the next round.
Hurst played Sackville in their first game and batted first. Our team started their innings brilliantly as Jemima and Jenna set the tone by running well between the wickets, striking the ball hard and precisely, until they retired. Daisy, Lucia, Leila and Georgie continued the momentum through to the end of the innings, as the team finished on 119-3 off eight overs. Our girls bowled tidily to keep the run rate down and the extras at a minimum, backed up by some brilliant fielding by Lucia, Phoebe and Harriet. The pick of the bowlers were Jenna and Daisy as they restricted the Sackville batters to win the game by 80 runs.
Our girls then played Millais and having won the toss again, batted first. The start to this game was completely different to the first game as we lost three wickets in the first over and the pressure was on! Leila, Jenna and Lucia recovered the innings well for a respectable total of 94-7 – a score that never looked possible at one stage. Yet again in the field, our team were brilliant and demonstrated real professionalism, as they bowled Millais out for 20 runs to win the game by 74 runs.
“ What a fantastic afternoon of cricket, played in a lovely spirit. It was great to see so many talented girls playing competitive cricket! Well done to all involved and to our girls who go through to the next round of the competition which will be played in March ” Matthew Reynolds, Master-in-charge of Girls’ Cricket
