January 19 saw the Boulder Brighton Inter Schools Competition with almost 200 competitors from 19 schools, some as far away as Winchester and Southampton. 15 pupils from Hurst participated in both the U16 and 16+ categories. The students all climbed excellently with Hurst coming 2nd place in the 16+ and 4th place in the U16 category, qualifying Hurst for the finals. A special well done to Orianne G who placed 3rd place in the individual female category.
The finals took place on February 2 with 36 climbers topping 93 times in the finals, making it the biggest yet. Five students from Hurst attended the finals and they all climbed brilliantly, despite it being a different style of competition where flashing the climb and attempts were not a part of the scoring, instead it was based on reaching a zone (a specific hold in the route) and reaching the top. The final scoring for the event saw the 16+ team place 4th and the U16 team place 6th, which is very impressive as they were a team player down. A special well done to Rohan A who topped five out of the six routes in the final.
