On the 2nd of February, the Lower Sixth Art and Photography students visited the Tate Modern on London’s South Bank. The purpose was to experience the renowned Yayoi Kusama Infinity Rooms and gather inspiration from the Tate’s permanent exhibits.
This was the first opportunity for most students to see artwork up close and in person since the beginning of the pandemic. Our students fully embraced the chance to independently collect inspiration. They explored the exhibition spaces, found artists and artworks to bring back to the art room, and informed their personal investigations as part of their A-Level coursework. The Infinity rooms encompassed this in an immersive contemporary installation. It was inspirational for the students to see the methods and techniques they are currently studying in such an influential space.
After the exhibition, a walk along the South Bank allowed students to connect themes of their current projects by taking source photographs – following in the footsteps of the work created by world-renowned artists seen just moments before. A successful, enjoyable, and culturally eye-opening day for all!
