Last week, the U18 girls’ rugby team made history as they attended Rosslyn Park National Sevens – the first national competition a girls’ rugby team has attended.
The team travelled to London Cornish RFC and played three games against some tough opposition. The goal of the day was to attend the first day of the tournament and show that rugby is possible for all. However, the girls were clearly more determined. Despite losing in their first game against The College of Richard Collyer 10-22, the team went on to win their remaining two matches against Collegiate 17-5 and Wellington College 26-7. These amazing performances progressed the team into day 2 of the competition and a chance to play in the final of the plate competition – something that no other Hurst team has managed to achieve this year. Unfortunately, on day two the competition was too tough ending the campaign for the girls.
However, the sheer determination of the team and the attendance at the event and progression onto day two is incredible and all who attended should be extremely proud.
“ The girls set out on this adventure to have fun, be competitive and prove that girls can play rugby. They have accomplished what they set out to achieve and left a legacy at the school that will hopefully be remembered for years to come. We couldn’t be prouder of the Eagles. ” Lewis Jones, Rugby Coach
