Year 6 visited Lewes Castle earlier this week, as the culmination of their topic on Norman castles. The pupils learned about the early history of the castle during a tour of the remaining fortifications, and they were particularly interested in the stone where the soldiers sharpened their swords before battle.
The artifact handling session allowed the pupils to examine objects that had been excavated from the castle and nearby priory, and each pupil gave a brief presentation to the group on an artifact they found most interesting.
The children had a wonderful day and really enjoyed learning about life in an early Norman castle through first-hand experience of the building and the objects that were used at the time.
