Community Action Day - Hurstpierpoint College

Community Action Day

One of the highlights of the Summer Term is always our Community Action Day. Every year, Shell, Remove, and Lower Sixth pupils head out to sites across Sussex and beyond, to offer help and assistance wherever needed.

Offsite projects ranged from grounds maintenance and painting at local churches to cleaning up Lancing beaches, organising the stables at Three Greys Riding School, and tidying sheds at Burgess Hill Rugby and Cuckfield Cricket clubs. Several of our pupils spent time in the HET schools and got stuck into a variety of tasks including painting, sorting cupboards, and playing with the children.

This year, the campus was equally as busy. Many of the Woodlands Meed pupils visited and enjoyed a variety of workshops with our pupils, some of which involved making bird boxes and floating flower gardens. Another group of Hurst pupils were tasked with sorting through all of the donations to Cameron’s Orphanage Project, ready for our Sixth Form students to take them out to Zambia this summer. The generosity of the Hurst community has been astounding, and these donations will make a huge difference to the staff and children out in Mkushi.

Community Action Day offers our pupils the chance to connect with and give back to their local communities. Pupils develop key skills in teamwork, self-awareness, and independence, all the while forming new friendships and making a real difference to lives beyond the College.
