Today, the college’s Climate Action Group (CAG) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, an annual event celebrated around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection –and this year’s theme of climate action is particularly fitting, as are the digital events taking place around the globe.
The CAG’s aim is to cut waste, decrease emissions, inspire and engage. Members of the group, led by teachers Phoebe Lewis, Deanna Cappella and Eliot Newton-Mann, run campaigns to increase awareness of sustainability – recent campaigns have included 40 days of sustainable Lent and paper-less wrapping at Christmas. Prior to the recent social distancing measures, the CAG met twice a week, the recycling members collected waste every Tuesday, and group members gave assemblies in the Senior and Prep School.
“ Our emphasis is on reusing scrap paper, composting food waste and creating ecobricks – all under the umbrella of living in a more sustainable way ” Phoebe Lewis, Psychology Teacher
