It has been a busy six weeks of cricket for three former students and Old Johnians who have been representing Sussex County Cricket Cub in the Bob Willis Trophy.
George Garton (2015 leaver), Tom Haines (2017 leaver) and Jack Carson (2019 leaver) all made significant contributions for Sussex in the competition created by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
George, who was called up to England’s Ashes squad as cover in 2017, took a career best 5 for 26 against Essex and scored 54 not out against Hampshire. Tom, who captained the college 1st Xl in 2017, scored 117 whilst opening the batting against Surrey, at the Kia Oval, to notch up his second first-class century. Off-spinner Jack, captain of cricket in 2019, made his first-class debut at the beginning of August against Hampshire and rounded off a fine campaign with 5 for 93 from 35 overs against Surrey.
