Hurst’s Jemima Spence (Lower Sixth) has been named in England’s squad of 20 for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup early next year. 
It’s the first time the best U19 women have come together to compete in an ICC global event. The tournament will be hosted by South Africa and 16 countries will compete against each other from 14 – 29 January 2023.
After a bright start to her senior career by making 66 runs in opening the batting on her debut for Kent Women, Jemima was named Emerging Player of the Year at the 2021 Spitfire Kent Cricket Awards. She also made an impact with the bat on her debut for the South East Stars as she was the stop scorer with 45* runs for the three games she played in this season.
Jemima has worked extremely hard for the opportunities afforded to her in the professional game and all involved with Hurst Sport are very proud of her achievements thus far. Her work ethic, and professional approach to developing herself as a cricketer and athlete, is outstanding.
The ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup will provide an exciting platform for the best young players around the world, and it will be great to see players competing against their peers in a global event. The next few months will provide a significant life moment for all players involved and it is a fantastic opportunity for Jemima to make a further impact in senior regional cricket now and in years to come.
In addition, former students and Sussex Cricket Club duo Tom Haines and Jack Carson have both been called up to the England Lions training group for the upcoming trip to the UAE as the England Men’s team prepare for a test series against Pakistan.
