Amongst students from many different schools and countries, the Hurst Model UN cohort held their own. Debating and constructing resolutions on impactful and current topics such as, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the regulation of Cryptocurrencies, all the pupils engaged thoroughly and came away from the conference with the abilities of negotiation and diplomacy.
We represented the United Arab Emirates, the Russian Federation, South Korea. Singapore, Canada and Australia, all of whom have significant political power in the International Community and within the United Nations. The responsibility of representing these countries was adopted by the pupils with respect and enthusiasm and even resulted in four students coming away with Distinguished Delegate awards, two of whom are new to Model UN.
The Lower Sixth, who had not yet been to a conference, prepared exceptionally well by carrying out extensive research and thus writing 60 resolutions to propose in committee, as well as getting stuck in delivering speeches and asking points of information in both committee and then in General Assembly. As well as succeeding in discussion and debate, Hurst did not disappoint with their dancing abilities as they won the talent show and pulled off some impressive outfits for the pyjama theme and 80s discos during the evening. Overall, another successful Royal Russell MUN conference for Hurst!
