Three fantastic visiting authors speak to pupils
For Book Week this year three fantastic authors were invited to speak to pupils in the Prep School Library.
On Monday, Tom McLaughlin showed off his skills as a picture book illustrator and talked about his brilliant junior fiction books which include the hugely popular and hilarious ‘Accidental’ series.
On Tuesday, pupils were treated to a visit from Onjali Rauf, award winning author of The Boy at the Back of the Class, which tells the story of a young refugee from Syria. Onjali – who has set up a charity which supports women and child refugees – gave some extremely thought-provoking talks and pupils went away inspired to learn more about the plight of refugees and hopefully make a small difference to their lives.
Wednesday was devoted to Pre-Prep pupils, who dressed up as their favourite book characters. Mrs Barrett (alias the witch in Room on the Broom) set up a selection of activities based on Julia Donaldson’s books and read stories to the children.
Thursday’s visiting author was Vashti Hardy, writer of Brightstorm and Wildspark, who talked about the inspiration for her books and her writing process. Some of the children even got to dress as intrepid explorers as part of her presentation.
“All in all, a very enjoyable and informative week!” Trisha Barrett, Prep School Librarian.
