The Junior and Senior Prep recently celebrated British Science Week with action-packed masterclass sessions, including a whole array of show-stopping demonstrations and exciting activities! British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering, and maths, that takes place between 8-17 March. The theme for this year’s week as ‘Time’, and this was incorporated into the different sessions in many weird and wonderful ways.
The pupils enjoyed visits from teachers across the College, including from the Senior School. They wowed our Prep School students with flame tests, elephant toothpaste, flying tea bags, Van de Graaf generators, egg parachutes, onion cell bio-viewing, magic eggs, and rocket launching!
The fun did not stop there, as pupils got stuck into experiments of their own, including: making ice-cream, investigating water boiling temperatures using a Bunsen burner, flower dissections, fruit batteries, and investigating friction and materials protect eggs involved in a high-speed crash!
For the Junior Prep, the pupils will continue to participate in British Science Week through a poster competition. Entries will be judged on the creativity, content, and effectiveness of communication by members of the British Science Association!
