Hurst’s CCF equestrian team took part in the military services competition at the Royal Windsor Horse Show for the first time and won the unmounted category.
The team of Harriet B, Ralf B and Freddie L had an early start as the course walk was at 6.30am and the class started at 7.00 am. There were 32 teams competing in the class who came from all over the world – including Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Morocco – which was sponsored by the King of Bahrain. The class consisted of three categories – mounted, unmounted and international. As well as being part of the winning team for the mounted event, Freddie L also placed fifth in the individual event, winning a bridle and a voucher. Our team members were presented with their trophy and prizes by the King of Bahrain and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Ralf B deserves a special mention as he had been up all night with a sickness bug and was not at all well that morning. With true Hurst spirit he rode an excellent round to help the team to victory.
In the afternoon, the school’s show jumping competition took place, which was another great experience for our students. Although it was not Hurst’s day in this event, each member of the team rode well. Emma P went clear, with Morten D, Harriet B and Lauren W on just four faults each.
