Last week, Lower and Upper Sixth Formers enjoyed an excellent opportunity to visit the Classics Department at Warwick University for a series of lectures.
On arrival, our students explored the Student Union for lunch and found it fascinating to observe the university full of students on a normal day. After lunch, they attended Professor Eric Csapo’s lecture on The Myth of Oedipus through both visual sources and literature. This was a valuable opportunity for our students as it provided great context for their set text, Oedipus the King by Sophocles, and the lecture even included one of their visual sources. They then had the privilege of seeing Dr Emmanuela Bakola explore the spaces within the play and also the key themes of fate, responsibility and the hero.
“ It was such a fantastic experience for our students to attend these university-style lectures and to get the feel for what university learning is like – not to mention all the modern scholarship quotes they gained! ” Clemmie Faulkner, Teacher of Classics
