Before half term, the college organised the third Southern Schools Indoor Climbing Championship at High Sports in Brighton, featuring a mix of bouldering routes (low-level climbing without ropes) and lead or top-rope routes (high-level ascent with ropes).
Five local schools took part in this competition, located from Tonbridge to Lancing, which was a high standard, hard-fought event. Hurst and Tonbridge took most of the medals in the advanced category and there was an even split of medals between Hurst, Tonbridge and Cranleigh within the intermediate category. Hurst climbers also performed well in the individual competition, as Felix and Tom both achieved first place in their categories, and juniors Rohan and Benny both won medals.
“ It was a thoroughly enjoyable event and so good to organise a competitive championship in a minor sport ” Fred Simkins, Director of Outdoor Education
