Hurst’s annual concerto concert was held in the Music School on Wednesday 19th of April. The first half of the evening’s programme was a performance by the senior school orchestra, which opened with Aaron Copland’s Our Town. This was contrasted by March Slave by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Both pieces were performed enthusiastically and were very warmly received by the supportive audience of friends, family and staff.
Following this, Georgie C-C was the first of the soloists to perform with orchestral accompaniment, playing Fauré’s Élégie for cello. Georgie relished this fantastic opportunity to perform advanced repertoire with accompaniment from an orchestra of professional musicians and played excellently. Next up, Will G played another standard of the cello repertoire, Allegro Appassionato by Saint-Saëns. This spirited and energetic performance closed out the evening’s performances in style.
Well done to the senior school orchestra for their hard work over the Lent term to prepare for this concert, and the professional musicians who performed the accompaniments for the soloists.
“ Congratulations Georgie and Will on their fantastic performances! ” Ross Dickson, Graduate Music Assistant
