This term’s Concerto Concert provided Prep and Senior School musicians with an excellent opportunity to perform a concerto movement alongside professional musicians. Our student performers developed their confidence on stage, and honed their instrumental soloist skills in both rehearsal and performance.
The concert began with the College’s Brass Ensemble performing Ryan Linham’s Triumphant March, followed by three orchestral pieces featuring the works of Dvorak, Mussorgsky, and Jepson. After a brief interval, the second half saw performances of various Baroque concertos, including Vivaldi’s Double Concerto in G Minor. Throughout the evening, the audience enjoyed excellent solo string performances from Georgie C-C, Annabel L, and Fleur H. Fleur performed alongside professional violinist Anna Giddey; an extremely impressive undertaking for a Shell musician. Several other solo performances transported our audience away from the Baroque period; Jonathan G gave a superb rendition of Glazunov’s cello solo Chant du ménestrel, James B performed two movements from Binge’s Concerto for Saxophone, and Liv M concluded the concert with a fantastic rendition of Goedicke’s trumpet solo, Concert Etude.
“ Congratulations to all the pupils who took part in this concert, particularly our magnificent soloists. Performing concerto movements alongside a professional orchestra is a hugely impressive achievement (albeit a daunting one!) and everyone should be very proud of what they have accomplished. Thank you to all the professional musicians who took part in the evening. ” Miss Froud, Teacher of Music and Drama
