A bitterly cold day greeted the runners as the students arrived at the vast Christ Hospital Schools site. With fields stretching for miles around the runners were extremely nervous about what was about to come. There were four races today, boys’ and girls’ races for both the Year 7 and Year 8 athletes. The field consisted of over 200 pupils of every race, from nearly every school in Sussex!
The first race of the day was extremely successful for Hurst with Amelie W finishing in 2nd and Ciara O sprinting home in 5th place. These top 20 finishes guaranteed the girls a place in the Sussex squad for the upcoming regional championships, a huge achievement. Hurst runners ran valiantly in the other three races with nearly all runners finishing in the top half and many of the year 8s improving on their positions from last year’s edition.
A huge thank you to Christ’s Hospital for organising such a large event. It was thoroughly enjoyed by us all.
