To enrich their A-level studies of the English Civil War, our Lower Sixth History students spent the day at the National Archives in London. Home to over 1,000 years of iconic national documents, the Archives are an invaluable historical resource that our students were extremely lucky to have such close access to. From Charles’ I marriage contract to the notes from his trial, the young historians explored and handled texts dating back to the 1630s; a unique experience that has provided them with many new and interesting perspectives on their studies, namely the events leading up to Charles’ execution. The group rounded off the day with a sunny pub lunch in Richmond, enjoying some well-earned relaxation following a tough week of mock exams.
