Sunday, June 25th saw a team of Year 6s take part in ‘Drenched Fest’, a water polo tournament hosted by Drenched School for water polo teams from around the region.
The festival aims to promote participation in the game of water polo, and Drenched School was created to introduce children to the game and increase participation.
We participated in one of three age group categories, the U11s. Competing against two Drenched teams, Aquademy Water Polo in Cobham and Drenched Stingrays, the Hurst team managed to win two of the three league rounds.
Finishing top of the table, Hurst was then due to play the second-placed team, Aquademy, resulting in their second game of the day. Hurst took an early 2-Nil lead, but unfortunately, Aquademy fought back to level the score and took a 3-2 lead.
However, Hurst was more determined than ever and dug deep and managed to secure a 3-3 draw at the end of the second quarter. With the game drawn at full-time still on a draw, the team played into extra time. With a strong performance, the Hurst team took the bull by the horns and score a golden goal, two minutes into extra time.
This was an impressive first outing for the team and a good foundation for building on and making water polo part of our sporting legacy.
