The Design and Technology department took its Remove students to The Design Museum in London to take part in a hands-on design lighting workshop. The workshop was a springboard to the pupils’ next project, where they have to design and then manufacture a light based on a period of design history from the last 150 years.
Whilst we were there, the pupils had the opportunity to look around the museum’s permanent Designer Maker User exhibition which houses almost a thousand items of 20th and 21st century design ranging from product design, architecture, engineering, fashion and graphics. The pupils also had the opportunity to visit two temporary exhibitions: one about Surrealist design and a second about a featured designer from the GCSE course – Yinka Ilori.
“ The pupils always enjoy seeing the products we learn about in real life – the Museum has a great selection of contemporary design that the pupils can easily relate to. ” Kaeran MacDonald, Head of Design and Technology
