66 pupils from Year 3 to Year 8 participate in annual event
The annual Prep School Triathlon was blessed with a bright, dry morning in a week of torrential rain, and it was fortunate that the event could proceed as planned. As has been the case for several years, the course had to change slightly in order to navigate around a number of building sites.
In the first triathlon of the year there is always an excellent turnout from Year 3 and 4 pupils, with a large proportion of the year groups taking part – with 66 children participating in total. In the team competition, Jack H, Ethan C and Archie C set a new course record by a couple of seconds. The individual event always produces a very close competition and is approached with great enthusiasm – this year was no exception, as Minnie G and Tom C-B took the top spots. One of the most rewarding things about this section of the event is that completing the course is just as important as being a winner, and the children enjoy taking part, even though they do not expect to win.
Some of the Year 5 and 6 athletes participated in the team event, and then returned for the individual. Luke P managed two thirds of the team event, and even though he looked tired, still achieved the best individual time, as well as breaking the team record with Oliver B-H; Tessa B-H swam for a team and then won the individual event.
The Year 7 and 8 events were won by Eryn C and Jacob W, both newcomers to the competition. Will G has vowed to work even harder to regain the title next time.
