The New Bury theatre was given a fitting rebirth by the cast of the Remove musical in their production of Fame Jr.
This production represents a moment of true commitment from a group of students who had rehearsed the music, dialogue and dance on MS Teams during last summer’s lockdown. When they were finally given the opportunity to take to the stage they did so with a passion and excitement that has been missed by all in the Hurst community.
The live-streamed performances were brilliantly delivered, and the entire company lifted themselves to create the busy and energised atmosphere that this classic 1980’s piece demands. Sam D C as Schlomo and Lexi L as Carmen created wonderful chemistry together. Kayla M as Miss Sherman produced a lyrical quality far beyond her years. Sophie D as Serena and Tabitha C playing Nikki shone in their roles. The show-stopping rendition of Mabel’s Prayer by Katie F was sheer class. Inaya B as Ms Bell, Felicity T as Mrs Myers and Elroy M as Mr Sheinkopf handled the more adult roles with ease. The characterisation from Asher S as Tyrone and Charlotte S as Iris was superb. Charlotte A (Lambchops), Katie A (Goody) and Harry K (Joe) added excellent comic support and the ensemble created a world on the stage that was always constantly engaging.
“ A truly enriching production and a welcome return to the New Bury stage ” Luke Gasper, Director of Drama
