At the beginning of June, the Hurst Equestrian team travelled to Felbridge for a day of jumping. In the 80cm class, Isla A, Henry C, Lars D, and Lyla YJ did fantastically well; all riders jumped fast double clears and won the class, meaning that they qualified for Nationals too! In the 70cm Grass Roots, Rosie C also saw success, achieving 4th place. Olivia S also secured 4th place in the 90cm Combined Training Class, doing a dressage test in addition to her 90cm jumping round!
Up next was the 1m team. After walking through the course with Team Coach Brian Cassidy, the weather took a turn for the worse…things quickly escalated, and the heavens opened with large hail stones, flashes of lighting, and torrential rain! The venue lost all power, and many of the riders fled to the indoor school to take shelter with their horses. When the storm eventually passed, both arenas were completely under water and many of the jumps had been blown over. Unfortunately, that put an end to the day’s events!
“ It was a dramatic turn of events after the rosettes of the morning, but thankfully everyone got through the storm safely. Thank you to all Hurst students who came to the show, including those who were unable to compete on the day. ” Equestrian Assistant, Sophie Reeves
