Two members of the Hurst equestrian team have qualified for the prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) this weekend at the Aintree International Equestrian Centre, Liverpool. HOYS is traditionally held at the NEC, Birmingham but due to the NEC being converted into a stand-by Nightingale Hospital, it was relocated to Aintree for this year.
Harry (Fifth Form) and Hazelrock Rebellion have qualified for both the Pony British Novice (90cm) and Discovery (1.05m) Championship Finals. Harry and ‘Arthur’ made the trip to Chard Equestrian in Somerset to gain their qualifications which involved qualifying at both the first and second round competitions during the last year. Harry and Arthur – who is a huge character and much loved within the Equestrian Team – will be competing against the best combinations in the UK in these categories, hopefully they can put in a stunning performance this weekend.
Ryan (Remove) and Newtown Samson qualified for the Shaw Farm Pony Show Jumper of the Year Championship (1.35m) at Bury Farm, Buckinghamshire last month. There are only six qualifiers for this class throughout the year, which means that Ryan is amongst the best in the country. Ryan’s partnership with ‘Sam’ is fairly new but they have grown into a stylish pair. Sunday will see Ryan and Sam competing against the best of the British Pony Show Jumpers in 2020.
Qualifying for this event is not an easy task, there are normally huge entries and only those who are fast, accurate and clear make it to the finals. Both boys have successfully represented the college at NSEA events over the past few years in both show jumping and arena eventing but this weekend they will be competing at the next level.
“ We are immensely proud of Harry and Ryan and wish them the best of luck this weekend ” Georgina Black, Equestrian Team Manager
