Hurst Unplugged is inspired by the 90s TV show MTV Unplugged, possibly made most famous by Nirvana in 1993. The ethos behind unplugged is for artists to perform their music acoustically, using different instrumentation and possibly different structures and forms to how they would normally perform. With a small amount of amplification (for the audience’s benefit), this is a wholly acoustic event.
Unplugged is one the most popular events of the year as we see such a wide range of musical styles and performances, reduced to their simplest musical form. This year we had performances from Lexi L, Matilda R, Izzy G, Will G, Donatella M, Jem D, Thomas D, and the supergroup of Freddie S, Rufus H, Euan S, Jonathan G, and Jem D.
Every performance was excellent and so it is impossible to pick a highlight. Special mentions go to Matilda for singing her own composition, ’Strange Round World’, and Jonathan and Will for MC’ing and providing the jokes for the night.
