U13 and U11 girls’ squads perform well against tough opposition
Hurst recently hosted both the U13 and U11 IAPS girls’ South Regional Qualifying events for the National Hockey Finals.
First up was the U13 tournament, with three places up for grabs – from a total of 16 schools competing – to secure a coveted spot in the national finals. Our girls put in some fantastic performances when playing Windlesham, Dorset House, Brambletye, Danes Hill, Cranleigh and Highfield in the group stages, winning four out of five games. This put them into the cup quarter-finals, where they played City of London Freemen’s School. Both sides had plenty of opportunities to score, however we did not manage to steal a goal and the opposition did. Our girls bowed out of the competition with at least a top eight ranking and showed good progression and improvements as a squad.
Next up was the U11 competition, with 24 teams set to battle it out. Our U11 girls played five tough pool games against City of London Freemen’s, Eagle House, Notre Dame Prep, Royal Russell School and Windlesham House. They played some impressive hockey, working well together as a team and finished the tournament competing in the plate competition where they narrowly lost out 1-0 to Junior King’s.
“Both squads did themselves and the college proud, showing good skills against good teams. Congratulations to the schools who progressed to the National Finals, we wish them well,” Scott Simkins, Hockey Development & Performance Manager.
