Jazz and Rock Concert
On Wednesday 6 March, the New Bury Theatre saw our Senior School musicians take to the stage for the annual Jazz and Rock concert. With a mixture of solos, duets, and ensembles, the evening was one not to be missed, and many pupils, parents and staff came along to show their support and hear some wonderful music.
There was a mixture of upbeat, rock numbers, and slower, jazzy ballads, as well as even a taste of musical theatre, providing a bit of music that everyone can enjoy. A special shoutout must go to the band made up of Shell students, which has only been newly created this term, and this has been their first performance to the public as an ensemble.
A particular highlight was Lexi L and Phoebe P’s performance of ‘Broken Wings.’ This had been written by Phoebe herself, accompanied by piano, for a new musical based on the Suffragette movement – a very impressive achievement which must be acknowledged.
With excellent lighting design delivered by our theatre technical crew, this event looked spectacular, and really added to the overall atmosphere of the concert. The students were very excited to be performing their music within the theatre.
Overall, this concert showcased not only the high standard of music making within our department, but also the excellent willingness to collaborate with likeminded musicians in bands and duet ensembles. The vast amount of time and effort put into rehearsing together cannot be underestimated, so congratulations to everyone who took part in this concert.
“ Many thanks to the crew for helping make this event a success and setting up and running the soundchecks with the musicians previously in the afternoon. And thank you to everyone who came to support – we look forward to seeing you at the next one. ” Neil Matthews, Director of Music
