Reception – Year 2
Hurst’s Christmas celebrations started on Wednesday 7 December with the Reception – Year 2 Nativity ‘Baarmy Bethlehem’. Narrators from Year 2 told the Christmas story, as they are constantly interrupted by the Party Sheep Cheeky, Rascal and Scamp! Fortunately, the narrators were not easily distracted and the story unfolded as Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem.
After there was no place in the inn, eventually they found a place to rest in the stable, where they were joined by angels, shepherds and more sheep. The Kings also found their way to the stable, offering their familiar gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh (although it may have been a cheese sandwich first!).
Pupils from all year groups sang outstandingly, their repertoire including Bethlehem is Barmy Tonight, Hello Shepherds! and A Very Special Secret. It was a real joy seeing the pupils enjoying themselves whilst delivering a high-quality version of the Christmas story.
The proceeds of the collection at the end of the Nativity were for Chestnut Tree Hospice, and many thanks go to all who worked tirelessly to put together the acting and the singing: the Reception – Year 2 pupils and staff, and especially Mrs Hastilow and Mr Dickson. A lovely start of the Hurst Christmas season!
Year 3 and 4
In the chapel on Friday 9th of December, years 3 and 4 put on a dazzling performance of the nativity story.
Featuring an array of impressive acting performances, alongside fantastic singing and dancing from all pupils. This was an amazing showcase of talent, creativity, and hard work. Recited in rhyme in the style of nine lessons and carols, the pupils impressed a supportive crowd of family, friends and teachers, performing from memory and singing in a variety of styles. Dressed to impress, from angels to camel riding kings, the pupils looked and sounded the part in fine voice.
Overall, this was a fantastic success and monumental achievement for children at this age to have performed such a body of work. We would like to take time to congratulate everyone in years 3 and 4 who took part, and to thank all the teachers who helped to make the show possible.
