Monday 27 March saw the Junior and Senior Prep School music ensembles showcased in the Music School. The students showcased all the hard work they have put into rehearsals throughout the entirety of the Lent term in an impressive performance.
The concert featured performers from years 2-8, playing a wide variety of styles. The show opened with the Prep School Chapel Choir singing ‘This Little Light of Mine’ and ‘Give Me Strength’, which set the scene for the afternoon. Year 2 Tutti Flutti was extremely courageous to get up and perform ‘Silver Moonlight’ and ‘Hot Cross Buns’ to a very large audience. The Prep Jazz band followed by performing two contrasting pieces by Sarah Watt – ‘Moving On’ featuring solos from Alice K, Sophie S and Reuben A and ‘Summer Sway’ also with another feature from Reuben A.
More incredible musicians followed with the Rockin’ Recorders playing ‘Gobstopper Waltz’ followed by the Vibrant Voices choir performing two pieces ‘Free as a Bird’ and ‘Can You Hear My Voice?’. And Year 3 Tutti Flutti also played two pieces ‘Hairy Scary’ and ‘Chilled’. The Music Improvisation group performed next, improvising the entire time around an arrangement of ‘January Blues’ – it was a great performance to see. Flute Juice was the penultimate performance playing ‘Phil the Fluter’ and the Prep School Orchestra closed the concert with Vivaldi’s ‘Spring’ and Brahms ‘Hungarian Dance’.
This was a fantastic afternoon of excellent musical performances. All students put so much effort into their rehearsals throughout the term to cumulate in such successful performances. It makes such a difference to have a supportive audience to cheer the pupils on and help with their confidence in performing for audiences.
“ We would also like to thank all our music instructors, Ms Bray, Ms Hodgson, Mr Travers, and Miss Wickens for putting on these groups and ensembles, giving the pupils fantastic creative outlets and performance opportunities. ” Neil Matthews, Director of Music
