With the biggest conference of the year—Haileybury—two months away, Mr Nash decided that the LVI team would benefit from some extra to rehearse and practice their public speaking skills. The General Assembly at Haileybury will host roughly 500 people, so refining techniques beforehand will be essential for the team members.
The students were tasked with presenting on a person who inspires them. Though some might have been slightly dubious at first, everyone learned much about how they can individually improve their public speaking. A range of inspirational figures were discussed; brother, fathers, primary school teachers, and even the likes of Marvel fan-favourite Ironman made an appearance.
The students displayed an exemplary level of maturity when presenting on these inspirational models, and many excellent speeches were given. Everyone brought something very different to the table, and importantly enjoyed themselves too. Even if the LVI at first felt pushed outside of their comfort zone, the key skills they developed through this exercise place them in good stead for the upcoming conference.
