Pupils from Years 5 and 6 enjoyed an outdoor art morning with a double-edged theme of the environment and mindfulness.
Armed with the contents of the Art Room, pupils headed into the great outdoors for a morning of creativity. Their first activity focused on the smaller creatures in our gardens and the importance of bugs and minibeasts. Pupils were asked to decorate a bug box, in their own design, to make a welcoming environment for visiting guests.
“ I was so impressed with the children's patience and intricate designs - their 'bug hotels' had welcome messages and brightly coloured exteriors! ” Lucy Lane, Head of Prep School Art
Their second task was based on mindfulness. This activity really stretched the pupils’ resilience as the process of making a God’s eye takes a little patience! God’s eye or Ojo de Dios, is a simple weaving technique of Mexican origin which has spiritual significance. Our pupils loved the choice of coloured wool and the repetitive nature of the activity.
“ It is refreshing to see a simple ball of wool and a couple of sticks appeal to all - we had trouble stopping them once they started! A really enjoyable morning in the sunshine with happy and relaxed pupils creating art - what could be better? ” Lucy Lane, Head of Prep School Art
