Wednesday 15 March saw the Scholar’s Concert in the Music School Hall. The Music Scholars put on an impressive performance to a supportive live audience of family and friends. This show was an opportunity for some of Hurst’s budding young musicians to showcase the excellent musical work they have been doing in lessons and private practice.
The scholars treated the excited audience to performances of very high calibre in a variety of styles, starting with Izzy R on the piano with Ludovico Einaudi’s Questa Notte. This was followed by a performance of Chopin’s Waltz in B minor by Ella L on the flute. The tuba then appeared with Jonty B performing an arrangement of the Swan by Camille Saint- Saëns.
Joe T performed a Novelette in E minor by Francis Poulenc on the piano and Jonathan G played Adagio, the second movement from Vivaldi’s Concerto in G minor. Charlotte S fantastically performed Debussy’s Syrinx for unaccompanied flute, followed by a Study by Jean-Michel Damase, performed on the harp by Amelie J.
Georgie CC sang ‘With You’ from Ghost the Musical, followed by Jemima L performing Sunstreams by Ian Clarke on the flute. The second Saint- Saëns piece of the evening – Allegro Appassionato on Cello was performed by Will G. Amelie J performed again, but this time on a piano playing a Nocturne by Greig.
The penultimate performance on the programme was from Georgie CC performing Fauré’s Elergie for cello before the final performance of the evening with Ella L closing the concert with Struttin’ at the Waldorf by Philip Lane on the piano.
Overall, this was a fantastic evening of great music, demonstrating the fantastic level of musicianship of Hurst’s music scholars.
“ We look forward to hearing many more musical endeavours to come from them. ” Neil Matthews, Director of Music
