21 Senior Rugby 1st Team players travelled to Sedbergh School over the weekend to compete at the Sedbergh National 10’s competition. This tournament isn’t for the faint-hearted and really test’s a team resilience and grit. Especially as it followed the grueling Rosslyn Park National 7’s, which took place the week before, leaving little time for reflection or recovery.
The students played over two days in an idyllic setting, underneath the rolling Cumbrian hillside. After coming close to beating the hosts in the very first game, the team went on to win four of their next six games, culminating in a dramatic Plate Final win where Oscar M, Fifth Form, scored with the very last play of the game to beat RGS High Wycombe.
A superb effort and finish to a staggeringly tough two days, which the boys rightfully and joyfully celebrated. They showed bags of team spirit and resilience, which was the difference come the final and 4th game of day two. It was also a fitting end for our leavers Charlie M, Josh M, Henry S, Callum M and Louis N who have given their all to the rugby program throughout their time at Hurst and who would have remembered not winning a single game at this tournament the previous year.
“ A truly wonderful experience for the boys, making memories with their friends, coming home with lot’s of smiles on faces. ” Freddie Pierrepont, Head of Rugby
