For the third year, Hurst took a small but able team of skiers to the British Schoolboys’ International Races held in Wengen and organised by the Down Hill Only Ski Club.
The races were held on the famous Lauberhorn downhill track, which hosted the FIS (International Ski Federation) races just the week before. Our skiers had two days of training with help from former student Harvey Vans Agnew, who recently qualified as a ski instructor.
Due to the weather, the decision was taken to hold the giant slalom first, and all of our racers had two great runs. With heavy snow due for the slalom, the event was held on the lower section of the Lauberhorn and again all of our racers skied the courses well, despite difficult visibility and conditions. The final day was saved for the very popular team parallel, when unfortunately, Hurst A were knocked out by Reed’s School however, Finley BH joined Richmond School to create an All Stars parallel team and gained a bronze medal. Toby VA and Tom B won a gold, silver and two bronze medals between them to round off Hurst’s best performance in this event to date.
