The Solo Music Competition ran for four nights – over two evenings on the week before half term and a further two evenings during the week after half term – with each specialising in a separate instrumental and vocal field, and culminated in the Winners’ Concert last Tuesday evening.
At each evening there was a feast of talent on show, which included pupils from Year 3 to the Upper Sixth playing alongside each other. Our four adjudicators – David Hollingum (Wind and Brass), Nic Robinson (Piano), Paula O’Sullivan (Voice) and Ros Hanson-Laurent (Strings) – who were all impressed with the standard of playing and singing, provided some very positive and constructive feedback to all those who took part.
The Winners’ Concert showcased the victors – beginner, intermediate and advanced – from all four evenings and was a real treat for the senses. All musical styles were represented and the standard of musicianship from all participants was very high indeed.
“ This was a tremendous showcase of the real depth of talent that we have amongst our current musicians. Many of our young musicians are on the right path to go far in the future! ” Neil Matthews, Director of Music
