It has been a busy Summer term for the Music department with a variety of different events including a village concert, Hurst ‘n’ Brie Rock Concert, and the annual Music for a Summer’s Evening.
Every year the Music Department is pleased to visit Holy Trinity Church in Hurstpierpoint Village to perform a concert as part of the local concert series. A large and supportive audience listened intently to four of our musicians playing music from across the centuries. All the performances were warmly received, and we are already looking forward to returning next year!
The annual Hurst ‘n’ Brie Rock Concert took place during and after Sports Day and saw a plethora of talent performing to a large and supportive audience. It was great to see the final appearance of the Upper Sixth Band and the Fifth Form band, ‘Collars Up’ played an extended set too. Other bands lower down the school included the Shell Girls Band and the Year 7 band who played with a good deal of confidence. There was a definite festival feel to this concert and it was great to see the audience having such a good time.
The weather stayed sunny and warm for Music for a Summer’s Evening which took place on Sunday night in the Inner Quad. The College Orchestra opened the concert with music from Pirates of the Carribbean. They were followed by the College Brass Ensemble who were on great form. Two of our flute ensembles played, supported by the lovely acoustic of the quad. The string group was sounding polished, and the concert was rounded off with a short set from the College’s Jazz Band. This was a wonderful and fitting way to end a fantastic year of ensemble music-making in the Senior School.
