Friendly competition was the theme of the day at Hurst’s Inter-schools Show Jumping Competition held at the All England Jumping Course, Hickstead.
This event was originally established in 2008 to provide pupils from local schools, at varying proficiency levels, with the opportunity to compete at one of the premier equestrian venues in the world. The rationale remains and so at this year’s event, amidst sunny intervals, 34 teams from 15 different schools took part over three heights to determine the best teams and the best individuals.
In the first class of the day – the 45-50cm – Cumnor House Adventurers took the top spot with Atelier in second and Windlesham House in third. Hurst riders then came into their own as the Red team of Henry C, Lyla Y J and Lars D won the 65-70cm class with some very tight turns in quick rounds, as Great Walstead Navy took second and Cottesmore third. Lyla also took second in the individual competition. Then in the final class of the day, the 85-90cm, Hurst’s Green team of Lauren W, Biba B, Morton D and Harriet B finished a close second to Seaford College with Seaford Blue in third and Hurst Yellow in fourth. A delighted Lauren took the individual title.
Riders from all participating schools enjoyed the friendly competition, dry conditions and remained in good spirits throughout. The event was hailed as one of the best since its inception by competitors, their families and supporters.
