The U12 Netball team competed in the IAPS Netball Finals at Ipswich School.
The team played five teams in the group stages and unfortunately lost four of these to Heath Mount 10-3, Clifton 4-1, Godstowe 6-1 and Millfield 3-2. They drew with Hazelgrove 6-6. Unfortunately, errors were made, and shots were missed which is fatal in a tournament due to the matches only being 5 minutes each way. However, the improvement throughout the day was fantastic.
The girls played Spratton in the Quarter Finals of the Bowl Competition – to which they arrived late – but despite this, they still won the game, which gave the girls their confidence back. The Semi-Final was against Taunton and where the girls played their best netball. There were several turnovers and from that the team was rewarded with some great goals from both Beau B and Lyla Y-J, allowing the team to take an 8-3 win.
The final was against Greshams, where the girls led the first half marginally, however, in the second half, the opposition came back at Hurst and eventually won the game 6-3. The squad gave it their all and played their hearts out. It was a fantastic day and brilliant to see how their confidence and achievement grew from the beginning of the tournament to the end.
All in all, a successful tournament for Hurst – coming second place in the Bowl Competition and placing 18th position out of 27 overall.
