The U13 girls recently headed to the IAPS regional qualifying hockey tournament accompanied by Mr Simkins and Miss Bingham.
Our girls started off their pool well, with a 2-0 win over Hazelwood. They pulled together a solid performance, holding their own throughout the game. The second game against Sandroyd proved to be a challenge. The even battle left both teams struggling to score goals ending in a 0-0 draw. Our girls remained persistent throughout despite the unrewarding result. In the third game against Ardingly College, there were some fantastic team goals and solid defensive work, which was, rewarded with a 4-1 win. This meant that Hurst finished top of their group and progressed to the quarter-finals.
Drawn against St Andrews Prep in the quarters the team fought hard throughout. However, after a nail-biting game, the final score was 1-1 in which meant sudden death penalty strokes. A selection of players from each team stepped up to take on the penalty flicks against the goalkeeper. After some spectacular saves, sadly it was not meant to be and St Andrews took the victory to progress.
A disappointing outcome for the girls who fought valiantly throughout the entire tournament. Despite the result, our girls played displayed a magnificent work ethic and some fantastic skills, leaving both Mr Simkins and Miss Bingham immensely proud.
