GCSE Music students headed to London recently to see a matinee performance of Wicked!
This biennial trip is an established excursion for The Music Department. Remove and Fifth Form music students were invited to see the show to hear their special focus work put into context.
Our students study eight pieces of music for their course which cover a wide and varied range of classical and popular music. Wicked! was selected as it demonstrates important compositional techniques used by the composer, Stephen Schwartz, and shows how to write effectively for the voice. Equally important, it shows how to compose music to set a scene to enhance its dramatic effect.
“ It was a great opportunity for our students to see this musical, hear a great performance given by leading West End actors/musicians and to draw a connection with what they have been taught ” Darren Jameson, Head of Academic Music
